Medicine for the Grave

18-medicine-graveIn the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful. Yes Allah (swt) gave different types of illnesses and diseases in this world; with it Allah also gave cure. I have come across people who are very attached to this world and when they seek cure they forget about Allah. A small delusion somewhere in the back of your head is created when you are attached to the dunya, that death is very far away and you have years before you age. Remember shaytan is the master of deception and as everyone says one of the greatest tricks the devil pulled was to make you think he does not exist. Now I am not saying that if you are ill stop seeking for a cure, it doesn’t mean you shouldn’t seek medication and advice for the illness or diseases you are suffering from, but to keep in mind that if you are destined to return to Allah (swt) with the illness, then no medication can save you from death, yep even hijama. A lot of the people we came across they have this image in their head that hijama will cure them, if it doesn’t help then they become very upset, they fail to remember cure is in the hands of Allah. Every soul shall taste death. You see science is slowly conditioning the human mind into thinking they can cheat death or so called the reaper. There are people out there who do believe in this that they are very close to finding a cure to live forever in the dunya, and moving to mars lolz well I’m not going to even bother going into that subject. I was googling and came across the msn science news section where they give an update of the latest technology and so on. There was a section about stem cells, if you don’t know what a stem cell is I will give you small break down. Stem cells have the ability to form into other cells e.g. brain cells or heart tissue cell etc. Recently they tested stem cells on a wounded mouse, the result was new hair follicles started to grow with new hair. So they are saying they have found a cure for hair loss.  Tests are still going on to find out if there are other side effects etc. So with this stem cell they believe they can also regenerate other organs in the body and can live forever.

Even if they do come to that, we know the whole universe will come to an end soon with the permission of Allah. Muslims should look forward to paradise, our real home, which is why Muslims should also prepare for their grave. There are so many websites out with information about different medication and people are busy looking for the next new drug. So what about the medication for the grave? I mean no hijama can pull my sins out, black seed, honey, olive or whatever is not going to help me in the grave.  So what can save me in the grave?

Two surahs captured my attention, there are other ways a soul gets saved in the grave by the mercy of Allah, but these two surahs I heard it before but I never paid attention to how important they are.  Surah As Sajda and Surah Al Mulk! Now I’m not saying these are the only important surahs in the Quran, all the surahs are important and they have their benefits.

I always make dwah to Allah to make my grave easy for me, to make day of judgement easy for me. One day I fell very ill, felt like I was about to leave this world, felt like a near death experience. It really made me think about the hereafter, what do I have to present to Allah? You feel very lonely and scared.  Alhamdulillah I have recovered now, however that experience made me research about the grave, to find out what did our prophet (saw) teach us to save ourselves from the grave punishment. I felt as if the dwah that I was making to Allah about making my grave easy, me falling ill was a way of Allah showing/answering me how to be saved in the graves, which lead me to research about these two surahs.  You have to take the first step, I chose Surah Al Mulk as I have found various hadiths regarding how beneficial this surah is when you are in the grave. I need surah Al Mulk to be there making dwah for me.

The Prophet would not sleep until he recited Surah as Sajdah.
[At-Tirmidhi 5/165; Hakim 2/412 & Dhahabi in Sahih al Jamiea (22/789).

Khalid ibn Ma’dan (radiAllahu anhu) said, “Recite the Deliverer, which is Alif Laam Tanzeel, for I have heard that a man who had committed many sins used to recite it and nothing else. It spread its wing over him and said, ‘O’ My Lord, forgive him, for he often used to recite me.’ So the Lord Most High made it an intercessor for him and said, ‘Record for him a good deed and raise him a degree in place of every sin.”

Khalid (radiAllahu anhu) also said, “It will dispute on behalf of the one who recites it when he is in his grave saying, ‘O’ Allah, if I am part of Thy Book, make me an intercessor for him. But if I am not a part of Thy Book, blot me out of it.’ It will be like a bird putting its wing on him; it will intercede for him and will protect him from the punishment in the grave.” He said the same about Tabaarakalladhi (Surah Mulk).

Khalid (radiAllahu anhu) did not go to sleep at night till he had recited them. Taus said that they were given sixty virtues more than any other Surah in the Holy Qur’an.

The Prophet said, ‘There is a surah in the Qur’an which is only thirty verses. It defended whoever recited it until it puts him into paradise’ i.e.Surah al Mulk
[Fath al Qadir 5/257, Sahihul Jamiea 1/680, Tabrani in Al-Awsat & Ibn Mardawaith]

Anas (radiAllahu anhu) reported Rasulullah (sallallahu alaiyhi wasalam) as saying, “There is a Surah which will plead for its reciter till it causes him to enter paradise (Tabarakallahi Biyadihil Mulk).” [at-Tabrani]

Abdullah Ibn ‘Abbas (radiAllahu anhu) reported that the Prophet (salAllahu alayhi wasalam) said, ‘It is my desire/love that Surahtul Mulk should be in the heart of every Muslim’ [Hakim, al-Hisnul Haseen by the cassical scholar Muhammad al-Jazri]

Ibn Mas’ood (Radia Allahu ‘Anhu) is reported that,
“A MAN WILL BE APPROACHED IN HIS GRAVE FROM HIS LEGS AND FROM HIS CHEST AND THEN FROM HIS HEAD. AND EACH TIME THIS SURAH WILL DEFEND HIM BY SAYING, ‘YOU CANNOT DO ANYTHING TO HIM, HE USED TO RECITE SURAH MULK’.”

Now you can see why I fell in love with this surah. I feel like that I am not giving you enough on how important this surah is, it is our prophet’s love and desire for us to memorise this surah. Not memorising this surah would be like you are hanging on a cliff and there is a huge blazing fire underneath you, there is a secured rope next to you for you to climb up easily and save yourself but you choose to ignore it! Please make an effort to memorise surah Al Mulk. Please do not get the idea of ‘hooray I can sin now because the surah will intercede for me’, you will be only fooling yourself, never be proud of your sins, never take/think of your sins lightly, always seek forgiveness. I make dwah to Allah to give you the ability and the motivation to store this in your heart, I hope this opens your mind, I hope this message spreads, I hope to see all my Muslim brothers and sisters in paradise. May Allah make it easy for you and give you good health. Ameen.
